Golf Club Grips – 3 tips to enhance your game

2 November 2011 No Comment

As any golfer would notice, having the proper grip to your golf club can mean the difference between a successful or failed hit. Power, balance, even timing is all considered on having the proper grip. No matter how expensive or cutting-edge your iron or club is, without the proper or a comfortable grip, you’ll soon find your ball on a wayward trip somewhere down the course.

That is why you need to invest on your golf club grips. A quick search of “golf club grips” online will actually result to dozens of results, leading lots of suppliers claiming to have the best grips. But what exactly defines the “best” for these golf club grips? Here are a few factors that you may have to consider before purchasing your much-needed golfing investment:

Fitted just for you – just as your golf clubs are based on your preference or desire, so do golf clubs. A rule of thumb is to base your golf club grip by the size of your hand. You can base the grip’s size by your golf glove. However, nothing beats on comparing and trying multiple grips first. After all, being such a personalized piece of equipment, textbook analysis and statistics can’t beat your actual preference. Go with what you feel is comfortable!

Play as needed, Replace as needed – depending on the amount of time you use them, golf club grips tend to wear down quite easily. A good rule of thumb is to replace the grips every six months to optimize your playing experience. This however, can be extended if you only play golf every other month. Just remember to check your grip’s condition if it needs to be replaced immediately.

Heavier, Thicker Grips Equals Power – for added durability and to get more power and control on your swings, go for thicker and heavier golf club grips. Studies have shown that due to lowered swing weight caused by thicker golf club grips, the probability of hitting a golf ball to where you want to is increased. Also, with a thicker grip, one can still play through any weather condition, sans the handicap issues.

There is no exact science on getting the perfect gold club grip. It all boils down on the golfer’s hands, his preference and feel on taking the perfect swing. It’s more of a golfer’s sense – his sense on how his equipment can make or break his game. By taking note of this article’s tips, you can assure yourself of bringing your best game in the greens.
