How Golf Shafts Can Make You Win a Hole

29 October 2011 No Comment

It is not just about your stance or your luck that determines whether you win in a golf game or not. Sometimes, your club shaft ‘flex’ can also greatly affect the outcome of your game because it more or less impacts the accuracy, trajectory and distance of your shot. And these three are really important factors to consider in playing golf, aren’t they? That’s why it is best for you to take a time out and know more about your shaft ‘flex’ to get better in the game.

Firstly, ‘flex’ refers to the ability of your golf shaft to bend as forces are applied to it during the golf swing. There are basically five ratings hat are used to determine shaft flex, namely: Extra Stiff, Stiff, Regular, Senior and Ladies. If your swing doesn’t match the shaft flex that you have, it will result to the clubface being distorted at impact, thus, making your shots go off-target. You must keep in mind that the moment your clubface hits impact, it must be perfectly straight for you to be able to get a good shot. Thus, if you have a wrong flex for your swing, chances are you won’t be able to hit the ball straight.

It is very important for you to be able to choose the proper degree of flex that your club shafts should have. One of the easiest ways to know is to assess the distance that you are able to hit your driver. If it’s about 250 yards or more, you can go with a Stiff Flex; 230-250 yards, Regular; 230-200, Senior Flex; and Ladies Flex if it’s less than 200 yards. Also, if you have a smooth swing, it would be best if you choose a softer flex while a swing that gets irregular when going into a downswing will perhaps be better with a stiffer shaft.

But the most recommended way to determine the right shaft flex for you is to go for a club fitting with a golf professional. This is available at many shops and in most golf schools. When you go for a clubfitting, a golf professional will take necessary measurements like your swing speed and will watch your swing and also your ball flight to be able to assess the shaft flex that is right for you. So go to a nearest shop near you, and get the perfect golf shaft that’s made just for you.
