Juvic stamps his class on the 2011 ICTSI Eastridge Classic
Juvic Pagunsan is on a roll. After winning the Tour’s opening leg at Royal Northwoods and just two weeks after his record setting performance at the ICTSI Orchard Golf Championship, he outlasted “Marvelous” Marvin Dumandan to win the ICTSI Eastridge Classic by a single stroke. This makes it 3 wins out of 4 events for the indomitable Pagunsan; a record for the Philippine Golf Tour.
Dumandan didn’t make it easy for him though. “Marvelous” Marvin shot the round of the day; a six under par 65 to push Juvic all the way. He shared the lead through 15 but then three putted the par 3 16th from a difficult position on the undulating green. That left the door open for Pagunsan who didn’t falter. He parred in to take the win.
Ferdie Aunzo, who calls Eastridge his home, shot a sterling 66 to vault up the leaderboard, tying Arnold Villacencio and Artemio Murakami for a share of third. Murakami fired a 1-under par 70 but it wasn’t enough to keep up with the torrid pace of the pair at the top. Villacencio was elated with his best finish on the tour to date and impressed everyone with the prodigious distance that he drove the golf ball.
Miguel Tabuena had his round down to 2-under par at the turn but a double bogey at 12 and another dropped shot at 16 took the wind out his his sails and he finished the day at even par and the tournament at 4-under par in a tie for sixth with Ruben Sasutil.
Kudos to the management and staff of Eastridge Golf Club for providing a stunning venue for the tournament. The course has matured very nicely under the care and supervision of course superintendent Ellery Temeña. This is a beautiful golf course in peak condition and is a delight to play for amateurs and professionals alike. We’re looking forward to coming back next year.
