The Crocs Amazing Feel Good Race

5 April 2011 No Comment

As a photojournalist I go to my share of press conferences but none as unique and as much fun as the Crocs Amazing Feel Good Race.

Now I must confess that I’m a big fan of Crocs’ ultra-comfortable line of footwear. Since developing osteoarthritis in my right ankle I use one pair of Crocs or another in my daily activities almost exclusively. They’re that comfortable. As you might imagine I was blown away by the fact that their new Duet clog and flipflop were touted as their most comfortable line yet. I just had to have a pair. It could only do my ailing ankle good. When I read the email with the details of the race, I was quite concerned. Any activity that involves racing has been completely off-limits since my condition hit for obvious reasons. But in the end, my competitive nature and the prospects of a new pair of Duets got the better of me.

The race route was set in 7 Crocs stores around the Metro, from Ermita to Marikina, with challenges that tested knowledge and love for the brand. The challenge was to take public transportation, with the exception of cabs, as Crocs dared us to test the Duet’s ultimate promise of innovative design and comfort in our quest around the Metro. It promised to be a fun day.

Crocs’ Franco Limjuco met us at the Crocs concept store in Shangrila Edsa Plaza to set us up with our gear and brief us on the rules of the race. We had to make our way to the Crocs stores in Ermita, Gateway Mall, Trinoma, Megamall, Marikina perform designated tasks at each and make our way to the store in Eastwood City where the race ended. We were given P200 each for transportation and set on our way.

Good thing the race route ran right by the MRT and LRT lines so that’s how we made our way around the city. We didn’t win but we got a really good idea of just how comfortable the Crocs Duet clogs were. The Duets differ from other Crocs products in that the outsole and insole are made from two different versions of their patented Croslite material; the Duet’s insole is softer and more comfortable than previous products and the outsole is harder and more durable giving the wearer the best of both worlds, more comfort and increased durability. I was asked what I thought of them and my reply was I hardly noticed them at all. They were like an old friend; they were comfortable from the get-go and seemed to just get more so as the day wore on.

Kudos to Franco and his team for coming up with a really fun way to introduce this new line. I hope the next one is as much fun as this one and that the new products even better.
